Day 18 - One more peek at the Grand Canyon...

G. C. Watchtower

Lake Powell
WC" Tom and Pat left at 8:00 and we pulled out around 10:00.  It was sad to say goodbye but we had a great time with them.  As we were preparing to leave, a gentlemen who was walking his dog stopped to say hello and, low and behold, he is from my hometown of Chattanooga!  The folks you meet on the road are really quite amazing.

On the way to Page, AZ, we couldn't help but take one more peek at the Grand Canyon except, this time, we stopped at the Watchtower which is on the far east side of the canyon.  Construction on the tower began in 1930 and was completed in 1933 and it's still solid as a rock...that's because it's made of stone.  It's 4 stories tall with windows at just the right position to see the most spectacular views of the canyon.  An artist was commissioned to do paintings in the interior....unfortunately, my pictures did not come out very good.

Onward to Page where we crossed the Glen Canyon Dam to our campsite at Wahweap RV Resort which is right on Lake Powell and a beautiful site to behold.  This camp is super nice with very large RV sites - all of which have a view of the lake.  After setting up camp, we met 2 couples that were travelling together in the site in front of us.  One couple had the RV and the other had a boat - they are from San Diego.  We also met the couple at the site to our northwest who have a 30' Tiffin.

After visiting with neighbors, we grilled hotdogs and ate outside on the picnic table.  High winds knocked out the WIFI which is why this post is late.  That must have happened before we arrived as it was not windy when we got here.
