Day 5: Exploring Maine...

Took some pictures of the view of our "golden pond" ...
Our "Golden Pond"
Our Coach "on golden pond"

The weather here is a dream come true....high 60's to low 70's, cool mornings and evenings with NO humidity.  Oh what a relief it is!

Today we took off in the car to re-trace our tracks from yesterdays drive up Route 1 through all the adorable little coastal towns.  The picture to the left is Kennebunkport.  Looked all around but did not run into any of the Bush family.  Kennebunkport is a much larger area than we thought and the Bush compound is, of course, in a very private section of the coast.

Anyway, loved driving around this area!

Maine Diner
Had lunch at the famous Maine Diner, as seen on the TV show, "Diners, Drive-In's and Dives".  There was a 15 minute wait which gave us time to look over the extensive menu.  Although, I stayed true to my commitment to try as many Lobster Rolls as I could eat.  I had "the Jim Nantz" which was a lobster roll (heated) and a bowl of their award-winning seafood chowder.  George had lobster benedict.  If eggs benedict of any kind is on the menu, George will order it.  Both our meals were fabulous.  The hot lobster roll was better than the cold one I had last night...plus, they served it with "drawn butter".  Sounds like something Southern but I don't think so.  The chowder had lots of seafood in it, shrimp, lobster, scallops (didn't realize I liked scallops), etc., however, the chowder base was thin but very flavorful.

The Yarn Seller

After lunch, we found one of the yarn shops that we passed yesterday.  This one is called The Yarn Seller in York, Maine.  It's located in an old house right on Route 1 and has a house-full of wonderful yarns (mostly woolens) and buttons.  Yes...buttons!  Ruby and I are always looking for cool buttons so I bought a few.

After driving all the way down to New Hampshire, we kept going down the New Hampshire coastline before heading home.  All in all, a beautiful drive and a beautiful day in paradise.
