Day 11: The Owl's Nest & Lake Winnipesaukee

The Owl's Nest GC
Headed out to The Owl's Nest today.  This was George's favorite golf course when he lived up here.  There is a lot of new residential construction on and around the golf course property.  The homes and condominiums are really nice and the golf course is beautiful.  I really wish we had brought our sticks as I would love to play it.  We also drove by the house where he used to live which is tucked way back into the woods.

Birch Tree
Almost forgot to mention the birch trees.  They are quite prevalent up here and are one of my favorites!  The leaves have a ways to go but are starting to change colors.

The Flume
Driving around the White Mountains was a special treat for me as this is where George lived and has told me so many stories about his life here. Now I can put a real life picture to the stories.

We stopped at The Flume hoping to walk around and see the covered bridge.  Found out they now charge $15 per person so we thought better of it and will wait 'til we get to VT and see all the covered bridges we can handle....for free!

Hart's Turkey Farm
We stopped for a late lunch/early dinner at Hart's Turkey Farm in Meredith.  This restaurant is third-generation owned and operated and almost everything on the menu involves turkey.  So, we filled up on a great turkey dinner.

Lake Winnipesaukee
From here, Lake Winnipesaukee was just around the corner.  It's a very large lake in Meredith but we only got to see a small cove when it started pouring rain with no sign of letting up so we decided to head home.  This turned out to be a good plan as it rained all evening but, can't complain, as it was another wonderfully warm day in the 70's which was "mostly" sunny.
