Day 3: Jekyll Island

The sun came out today so we toured the picturesque Jekyll Island, GA which is the island just south of St Simons.  First of all, there is a $6 charge to get onto the island which is a bit annoying, however, we paid it and, I have to say, it was worth it.  The island is shaped like a mushroom cap and we drove it full circle so to speak.

There are 3 - 18 Hole Golf Courses and 1 - 9 Hole Course in the interior of the island. The outerbounds of the island are reserved for beach-front hotels and public beach access.  This is a very family-friendly, affordable vacation island with a Water Park, Picnic Areas, Wildlife viewing areas, a Soccer Camp, a 4-H Club Camp, Horseback Riding and a Fishing Pier.  Of course we also discovered lots of cute local shoppes.

The beach was beautiful and we were blessed with nice summer breezes so we chose the only restaurant located right on the ocean.  At Fin's On The Beach, we had another wonderful seafood meal with an ocean view to match.  I had Shrimp and Corn Chowder with a Shrimp Caesar Salad Wrap which was yumm.  As you can tell by now, I love shrimp and I also love the movie Forrest Gump so don't get me started.  They served the traditional hushpuppies with our beverage and they were THE BEST!  Also served with homemade remoulade sauce.  Seems like every restaurant on the coast has their own "homemade" recipe.  George had a Shrimp Po Boy which he once again devoured.
